I want to rant. It's been a long time since I've ranted. There are many things to rant about, starting with that damn HCL commercial. I want to punch that damn HCL employee and what kind of a company provides a helicopter to go overseas but doesn't provide transport to the helipad that's in the middle of the desert... and the HCL employee can't even afford a taxi and has to hitch a ride from none other than an investment banker who's driving an SUV without gas in the middle of nowehere. That's believable.
Having said that, the new Happy Dent commercial is easily one of the best ads I've seen on TV recently.
On the other hand I re-read "The Half Blood Prince" in anticipation of "Deathly Hallows"... so many questions, only one book to answer. Potter can't be the seventh horcrux can he? Less than 30 days to go!

Amen! I concur totally with your taste in ads. Happydent White Chewing Gum... I sing along at the end, every time!
ReplyDeleteMighty are you on Orkut? You should check out the community there called Harry Potter Rumours... it's full of serious Potterheads.
Thamby, I've been meaning to ask you, where are you pre-ordering HP7 from? There's this site, Indiaplaza.in, which gives 300 bucks off, but then you run the risk of the book not being delivered on the 21st.
That Happy Dent ad is ancient man. At least a year old of not more.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one though.
If that's ranting, you need to put more effort into it.
Oh no, not you too. I think I'm the only person who hasn't even read one Harry Potter book. And I've only seen the 1st Harry Potter movie (friends made me and afterall, can't knock it 'til you try it).
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with Yohan. Your rant seems to only just begin. I'd like to read more. =P
Maggie you seem like possibly the sort of person who wouldn't have seen The Matrix... am I wrong?
ReplyDeleteI hate that bastard in the HCL ad.. cocky fucker... if I was giving him a ride, I'd surely have landed him a tight slap and kicked him out the (moving) car...
ReplyDeletebut I am not a fan of the Happy Dent ad... maybe I am too uptight about it but I can't get past the human lighting aparatus bit...
if it was like a otherwise happy looking well fed fellow, then it's ok... but skinny looking guys hanging around like appliances... talk about Oppression..
but actually, its the fact that they are inadequately attired and that too in crsytal chains...
Kinky and not in a good way...
That is nothing compared to the shit here. There's a brand of juice with two 'flavours' called "anything" and "whatever". The ad has two thugs with a gun entering a shop and yelling "I want anything!". the Shopkeeper starts giving him arbid things. And then the other guy screams "I want whatever!" and the scene continues with the shopkeeper handing out everything from tissue paper to lollipops...Why would anyone buy it. Sure people would talk about it. But nobody would buy. I should check if the company is listed and check the stock price..

also, I may have gotten carried away and added the gun bit.
ReplyDeleteI checked with a friend and we've concluded that given young people are inane, they may infact be influenced by this ad.
That is one weird ad...as far as tooth whiteners go Orbit did much better.
ReplyDeleteThe 'Myself Bhataudekar' one? I liked the sequel...
ReplyDeleteNisha answer my question na... and anyone else buying it in India...

ReplyDeleteThat ad for the CBZ X-treme is TERRIBLE. The shortened version cuts out all the decent parts and leaves only the corny dialogues in their stoopid accents.
Perakath: Why do you say that?? And yes, you are wrong. =P I've seen The Matrix. Many times. In fact, it's one of my favorite movies. Can't say the same for the 2 sequels, though.
ReplyDeleteNo offence meant :D just that you haven't read HP... and I know a few girls who haven't seen the Matrix.. only girls!
ReplyDeletethe happy dent ad rocks!!
ReplyDeletei love the music in the ad.
it won 2 cannes gold awards.
it has been rated as the best commercial ever of the indian ad industry .
i remember the ad came out 1 year ago and happydent revenues grew by more than 100% after that ad.
the ad was off air for 6 months and is back on air with a bang. sorry for the boring trivia but the ad has really done some unprecedented stuff.
even i have only met girls who haven't seen the matrix..
I'm booking the HP7 at one of the delhi stores, they have tons of offers running..
you get 250 rs of DC comics free... i think thats the coolest one..

ReplyDeleteBut Harry Potter and The Matrix are like apples and oranges. You can't really compare them...one's fantasy, the other sci-fi. I mean, I loved LOTR (both the books and movies) but I just can't get into HP for some reason. But yeah, I don't know any guys who haven't seen The Matrix, only a few girls. And those girls happen to like HP.
ReplyDeleteIs that a gupta I detect?
ReplyDeletehequcu: romanian heck.
Look at him waxing eloquent about ads :)
ReplyDeleteYohan, any idea where the good bookstores in Bombay are?
Now there's no need to be realistic, Gupta is here!
ReplyDeleteThere's a Crossword at Kemp's Corner, and one in the Hiranandani complex in Powai. Not sure about others though. In town on Sundays there are old books sold on Colaba Causeway.
