Yesterday I managed to watch Sarkar and finish Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
It’s clear that Sarkar has been heavily influenced by The Godfather, but that doesn’t take away the fact that Sarkar is still a brilliantly well made movie. Stellar performances, excellent background score (though very reminiscent of Company) and some rather smart dialogues and camera angles made Sarkar a very worthy watch.
Half Blood Prince on the other hand was a bit of a let down after all the hype, much like Order of the Phoenix. One was hoping that the Harry Potter franchise would not become another Star Wars. Alas, it’s too late now. I still don’t understand that if the potions book was fifty years old, how could it belong to Snape? [Edit: It was originally his mother's] Interestingly enough, the contents of HBP and what is to be expected bear a remarkable similarity to a brilliantly well written fan fiction that Nisha had once showed me.
I noticed a bunch of printing errors and typos in the Bloomsbury edition. They forgot to add Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, in the list of previously published HP books in the back dust cover. There was a lot to be wanted from HBP, but in the end I agree with one review I read in ToI (forgive me!), HP6 is nothing more than a tie up of loose ends before embarking on a grand finale that is to be HP7.
However, HP6 has sparked a lot of speculation, particularly about the mysterious R.A.B. and Snape. Snape of course remains the most enigmatic character and after the movies (cheers Alan Rickman) he's become my favorite!
The HP news on television has been very irritating. It’s like the Beatle mania all over again.
I wonder if HP will become another Sherlock Holmes, to be brought back from the dead by an enraged readership?

Dear Almighty..I think the book was prev owned by Eileen Prince and then passed on to her son Severus Snape...I have a doubt tho..In the CoS book Tom Riddle writes something in the air which jumbles up to form Lord Voldemort...what did he write up originally in the Air??...And there was this one thing in LOTR that also functioned like a Horcrux?...Can u name it??
ReplyDeleteWell, the ring functioned as a horcrux is LOTR definitely. And the end of Voldy and Sauron are pretty similar after their respective first wars wouldn't you agree? Well let's not get into similarities between HP and LOTR.
ReplyDeleteTommy in CoS writes Tom Moldovo Riddle which is an anagram for Lord Voldemort.
Perhaps your explanation of the ownership of the book is quite accurate although it raises another question. If Snape invented all those cool hexes and curses which he wrote down in the book in Sixth Year. How did James Potter know about the Levi... hex in fifth year when they were giving their owls (from OotP)?
Perhaps, he didn't start using the book in his 6th year but rather earlier on...
ReplyDeletetwo points to support this:
1. He was good at Potions, probably coz he liked it for its own sake... then it makes sense to more than he HAS to know in class.
2. The fact that it was his Mother's just goes to show that he HAD the book since before his sixth year.. if it was his own, it is less likely that he bought a text book years before he was required to...
Another aspect: I bet SS was in lowe with Harry's mom... explains a lot... his hate for James and his hate for Harry who he keeps comparing to his dad...
SS informed V about the prophecy w/o knowing that this would lead to Lily's death... full of remorse or more likely vindictiveness, he changed sides...
ta da
i need to drink beer and hit on some women now... just to reassure myself...
ReplyDeleteDitto here Tuvok...I think the levi^% Spell wasnt invented by Snape but generally used around school so he probably wrote it down...but the curse that bloodied Malfoy was definitely invented by him...Theres no way I can write the 7th book...1)Literature is hard to regenerate...as in to write in "her" style...2)I ll have to write abt tons of shit...Like Ginny and Hermione smooching guys...3)Her story structure is weird....Its like an Al Qaeda Camp in Afghanistan that keeps moving in the dark 4)I m honestly bad at Potter details 5)Nothing much happens in the last book but it had what 700 pgs??..thats hard stuff to write..
ReplyDeleteStuff I'd want to read in HP7:
ReplyDeleteVoldemort and Harry are parrying curses atop a high cliff when one of Voldemort's curses richochets off a rock and stirkes Harry on his right wrist cutting it off completely...
Harry tumbles backwards and topples off the cliff and hangs on for his dear life with his good hand.
Voldemort peers over the cliff and says..."Join me Harry and together we will rule the galaxy"
Harry says, "Never, you killed my father, Dumbledore told me."
"No, Harry, I am your father!"...
